Students review the Spanish-American War by completing a 27 item timeline and answering 4 questions. They classify those events according to a system detailed in the instructions, complete one task for 8 items and a different task for 4 other items. There are arrows in the first two lines of the timeline showing students the direction to fill out the pieces in. The answers are included where appropriate and this could work for a sub!
Sample timeline items and questions include:
--The Maine is sent to Cuba
--Insular Cases decided by Supreme Court
--Dewey destroys the Spanish fleet in Manila
--Cuba revolts against Spain
--Emilio Aguinaldo leads revolt against US forces
--Queen Liliuokalani overthrown
--Compare and contrast the way Cuba and the Philippines were treated by the United States. Explain the reasons for those similarities and differences.
--Create a one line slogan to sum up the role of yellow journalism during the war.
