PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This activity is intended to help students understand monopolies, how they led to the rise of Big Business in the beginning of the 20th Century, and their impact on consumers. This activity can be used when teaching the concept of monopolies, or as a lead-in to teaching the Progressive Era. Prior knowledge of the concept of capitalism and consumers is highly recommended. Students will analyze a political cartoon about the Standard Oil company, then complete a tactile processing activity to understand how a company becomes a monopoly through horizontal and vertical integration.
