The Star Spangled Banner, adapted for accessibility by those who read on a 4th grade level and higher. The including of pictures was done with the student who has autism in mind but is surely not limited to these students. The 1st stanza or the words to the song are kept as is, pictures of select words are added for understanding.
All of the words with pictures above them are added on seperate pages giving an added way for students to learn the words before reading the poem. Pictures are worth a thousand words and can be used in many different ways to teach.
The best part: Students learn the star-spangled banner. As budget cuts have included Music, many students today do not know the words to our national anthem. Teach it in your poetry unit and give students the life-long knowledge of being able to recite the words!
