Tired of guided notes? Textbooks out of date or non-existent? This was my solution to those problems and has been a great addition to my Cold War Unit.
This is a great overview activity for the start of the Cold War. Upload the handouts to google classroom for your students to use independently or in partners, print a class set for students to have handheld copies, or use them for a jigsaw group activity. Every student gets a worksheet to fill in the answers and keep in their interactive notebook or social studies folder. This would also make a great homework assignment for teachers looking for meaningful and enriching homework assignments.
I have had students work independently or with partners and use 5-7 minute timers to keep my students tracking through the questions efficiently. Below grade level readers will need more time than on or above grade level readers who will be able to work through the text quickly. I also provide vocabulary definitions in my google slides, have students practice analyzing the maps as a class on the board, and fill in the HOT question chart on the board with answers from the class.
