This web quest is great for October and Halloween!
This web quest is designed to get students reading the short stories of Edgar Allen Poe and analyzing them for atmosphere, story elements, and interpretation.
Simply number your students off from 1 to 4. That number corresponds to which short story they will study in the web quest. Students will then read, and answer questions about the story and Poe's style.
Then students will watch a video that is detecting or interpreting the story. They will answer questions on atmosphere, interpretation, and compare/contrast a little.
Then, students will get into their groups and complete a group effort interpretation of one of the Poe story they have been reading. Each group should be given a couple of days to get their interpretations finished, and perfected.
They are required to write a one-page explanation of their interpretation and how they attempted to stay true to the atmosphere of Poe's original work.
Students are also given the opportunity to organize their groups on their worksheets, and there is a place for them to discuss how the group worked together.
A rubric is included.
This is very student-led, and teacher hands-off.
Please feel free to alter or edit this web quest in any in order to suit the needs of your students and classroom.
