Are your students having trouble identifying the theme of a story? This lesson digs deep into theme!
This lesson plan includes an activity that uses the book The Story of Ferdinand to help students identify theme. The activity involves identifying the main character's traits, and evidence to support how they dealt with the problem in the story. Then students are asked to identify thematic ideas within the story, and the message the author is communicating about that thematic idea.
