This Omega English product contains a teacher generated Text Based Analysis graphic organizer for the short story “The Story of Keesh” by Jack London. In addition, you will receive a two page student handout of Prompting Analysis Sentence Starters. This graphic organizer helps students clearly identify the central idea of a text, identify the writing strategies used in the text, select specific evidence that supports the author’s use of the writing strategy, and analyze the author’s use of the strategy in order to develop the central idea. Note that the story "The Story of Keesh by Jack London is also included in the Scholastic Code X Unit 2 Curriculum. This graphic organizer is a great supplement to the curriculum.


Teachers can help students become familiar with the skills needed to fully and thoroughly answer a Text Based Analysis question by incorporating this graphic organizer into their curriculum. By practicing the skills of identifying writing strategies, selecting relevant evidence, and analyzing evidence, students become stronger writers and develop the necessary skills needed in order to effectively develop a Text Based Analysis Response.
