Reading Activities: Reading Questions in order of the text with recall and inferences questions. Graphic organizers including Word Webs, Mrs. Mallard's Thoughts, and Mrs. Mallards Responses. Assessment questions for test or quiz use. Answer keys included.

Literary Essay Choice of 4 essay questions related to the text. Rubric and prewriting worksheet included.

Alternate Point of View Writing: Students will chose either Brently Mallard or Josephine, the sister and write the story from there point of view. Includes rubric. Two versions: one with suggests using research into the historical context and one that requires it.

Prequel Writing Students will write a prequel story that attempts to explain the relationship or situation before the story. Students will use details from the text and creative writing. Rubric, prewriting and self-reflection included.

Culminating Projects Set of 9 culminating projects for use with the text. Includes Task Card, Student Menu, and Choice Board. Projects are in 3 categories: Visualize, Creative Writing, and Analyze.
