This activity should be completed after reading "The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin.
The handout consists of ten multiple-choice questions of varying complexity. Some questions are basic reading comprehension questions while others require students to make inferences or analyze the literary devices and techniques being used in the story.
The second page consists of a short-answer prompt that student must complete using appropriate evidence from the text. Students must use their knowledge of the time period to identify quotes from the story that would make this story bold or daring for the time period it was written and published in.
An answer key is included.
