This reader's theater was written for four students. In the script: The students are wondering why all marathons are 26.2 miles long and where marathons came from in the first place. One of them happens to know and tells them about the Greek and Persian war and how a messenger gave his life to warn others. This answers the question of where the marathon came from but not why they are 26.2 miles long. It turns out that the Greeks didn’t choose that length, the royal family of England did when the marathon was run in 1908. The script ends with everyone going to watch the marathon. There is a short opinion writing assignment afterwards. I use reader's theater as a way to encourage all students including my reluctant readers to raise their fluency. It motivates everyone! This script ties in Social Studies with Language Arts. My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone. If you like this script, take a look at some of my others. As I have said before, small groups are better because students aren't waiting as long to do their part and they get more practice in and you get less off task behavior issues. Please let me know what you think of this one. Most of my scripts are black and white to make it easier and cheaper to photocopy. Thank you.
