Go for the Gold with your students this year! This is a LOADED packet that includes:

ACTIONS & VOCABULARY
--Use the 17 action cards to move around the classroom! Students can practice following directions or giving directions to peers.
--29 vocabulary cards to reinforce words being learned in this unit
--Play “I have… Who Has?” targeting Summer Sports vocabulary
--Play “I have … Who Has?” targeting actions of Summer sports

IDIOMS
Learn, match, draw, write, & define common expressions as you have fun with Summer sports. Students will gain exposure to and experience with 17 winter/sports themed idioms.
-- intro cards have idiom and meaning to provide exposure and teach the meaning (color and b/w version)
--match the idiom to the correct meaning by writing the word (word bank included)
--students use a template to draw a picture, write the definition, and create a meaningful sentence for each idiom (option of one idiom per page or 2 per page)
--students use idiom cards to quiz each other for definitions (can answer verbally or using the white board)

MULTIPLE MEANING WORDS
Learn, sort, define, draw, & write multiple meaning words as you have fun with Summer sports. Students will gain exposure to and experience with 9 Summer Sports-themed multiple meaning words (watch, fan, match, star, trip, fair, racket, season, foot)
--intro cards have word and both definitions…can use in a pocket chart, on the word wall, and as an introduction
--sort the two meanings to the correctly labeled medal…can do as cut/paste or can laminate a set and students match the definitions to each word
--students use a template to write the word, draw two pictures, and create a meaningful sentence using both contexts (one multiple meaning word per page)
--students use multiple meaning word cards to quiz each other (can answer verbally or using the white board…students who still require extra support can use the two pages of sorting definition cards as answer choices)

CATEGORIES/DESCRIBING/COMPARING/CONTRASTING
--Students will sort into two categories the pictures for summer/winter, cyclist/swimmer, summer sports/winter sports; warm/cold.
--Using 12 thematic category cards, students will name items that fit. Students can answer verbally or use the template for written responses.
--Students will describe items using characteristics of location, action, category, time, parts, and weather. Using this template they will then compare and contrast two concepts using a Venn diagram (summer/winter; swimmer/cyclist)

PARENT NOTE
--Parent communication template that can be used for the entire unit
