Activities can be used mutiple times during the unit the posibilites are endless, introduce a lesson, warm-up activities, ticket out the door, review for the test, even used as an alternative way to assess.
Our students loved learning about the Sun and Solar System and enoyed all of these activities. All activities include a recording worksheet for students to document their learning or for teachers to assess their understanding.

-What's in the Solar System
: (New) Begin the unit with astronaut training activities.
Students will understand the difference between the universe, galaxies and the solar system. They will sort cards into a graphic organizer.
-Compare the Sun to Other Stars
: Students will identify the characteristics of our sun by comparing it to other stars. Students will sort the cards into a Venn diagram.
-Planet Line Up
: Students will use facts from NASA.gov to organize the planets based on different criterion. As they line them up, they will record the order of the planets on a graphic organizer.
-Inner vs Outer Planet
: Students will sort the characteristics that belong to each group of planets as well as some that they share in common. They will sort cards onto a Venn diagram, then record their discoveries onto a copy of their own.
-Sports Ball Match Up: Students will decide which balls to use for a scale model of the Solar System. They can either line up the balls, or simply record their thoughts on a worksheet provided.
-Asteroids, Comets and Meteors: Students will play a popular game, but with a new twist. They will learn characteristics of meteors, comets and asteroids as they play. A lab sheet is included to keep score and solidify their understanding with a graphic organizer.
-Space Riddles: Students can review what they have learned about all celestial bodies as they play a game to match riddles to objects found in the solar system.
-Guess What Game
: Students will play a partner game where they try to guess which celestial object their partners choose.
: Students will review the Earth/Space Day/Night, Seasons Unit with this game. They will play a competitive 4 player game as they race to react to the leaders choice of time and season. It's easy to learn and provides opportunities to switch up the game by a simple twist of the game board.
