260 chapter-by-chapter questions (& many also contain multiple parts) + BONUS final activities for independent or group projects. Questions focus on comprehension of the text, and the author techniques and language & grammatical features used. ALL QUESTIONS INVOLVE HIGHER ORDER THINKING THAT WILL CHALLENGE YOUR STUDENTS!
The novel study was developed by me for use with my Grade 1/2 gifted and talented class but would also be ideal for both mainstream and gifted/talented classes from Grades 3-5 and perhaps even some Grade 6 classes.
The pack contains an "Advice for Teachers" page, suggesting how to implement the novel study, and also contains a page listing the strategies covered by different curriculum models in the unit: Bloom's Taxonomy, The Williams Model, C.A.R.S, First Steps and The Maker Model.
I do not include spaces for answers, as this allows you to differentiate... you might expect a 1 sentence answer from your lowest group of students, and a whole essay on the same question from your top group of students, including evidence/quotes from the text. It gives you the flexibility to use the questions how you choose. In fact, it also allows you to designate (or let the students choose) which questions are answered by which students.
There is a strong focus on comparing and contrasting, building vocabulary, understanding figurative language (alliteration, similes, metaphors & personification), writing techniques (sensory language, repetition, use of a narrator, etc), connecting to a text and characters, analysing, evaluating, understanding inferential information, grammar (verbs, adverbs, adjectives, connectives), and understanding author's purpose (word choice).
This novel study would be ideal to use along with a narrative writing focus in the classroom, as there is a focus on using the author's techniques in their own writing.
Final activities are included after the final chapter questions.
NOTE: I have a wide range of HIGHER ORDER THINKING novel studies for sale- check out all my titles at my store! They are my best-sellers, as I believe they genuinely fill a need in the market- I actually began making them because I couldn't find anything like them already on the market. I got sick of having to use literature studies that involved really basic types of questioning, and just didn't challenge or extend students' thinking and understanding at all. These novel studies take me a lot of time and careful thought to create- you are truly getting a lot of value for money! I hope you find them as helpful and enjoyable to use as my previous customers have!
