Product Description
This product divides the book //The Tale of Despereuax// into four manageable sections. Each section contains two Creative Thinking and two Critical Thinking questions. The Creative Thinking questions encourage the students to think about the text in a fun and creative way (self-connection, poetry, etc.) The Critical Thinking questions require the students to think about the text using literary analysis (inferring, questioning, predicting, character analysis, figurative language, etc.) There are many questions where I have provided important quotes from the book as well as possible teacher comments.
I used these questions with gifted 2nd-3rd graders over a four-week period. The students were responsible for reading and responding to the questions on their own time, and then we met and discussed their responses once a week. They had to choose one Creative Thinking question and one Critical Thinking question each week. (This is a great activity for your higher level reading students who you may only meet with a few times a week!)
BONUS: I have included a Literary Terms Glossary where students can reference important literary terms such as personification, inference, diction, etc.
