This is a creative writing assignment based on the book The Talking Eggs, by Robert D. San Souci. After reading the book, students become hosts for "eggchange eggs" from the country of Eggonia. They will interpret their visitor's Eggonese to write "autobieggraphies" using their knowledge of first-person perspective. Students will also use recycled materials to provide clothing and shelter for their eggchange egg.
The package includes a thirteen-page teacher companion and a five-page decorative companion. The teacher companion includes written lesson plans for six days, student handouts, and a rubric for grading the egg journals. The decorative companion includes two pages that can be combined into a banner for a bulletin board, an egg picture that can be used to make egg templates for tracing, and pictures of egg journal covers and houses.
My students have enjoyed this project throughout the years. I hope you and your students enjoy this project as well.
