Watching telenovelas during this pandemic is an opportunity to bond with friends and newly-made friends. They give us something in common that we could chit-chat about – using the target language: Spanish! They represent something language learners could look forward to and watch together!
Telenovelas diversify our Spanish, as they teach us words and expressions that are useful for explaining all kinds of crazy situations. They also give us the opportunity to use Spanish to genuinely and meaningfully ask others what they do and do not like to watch after we have shared our preferences. Lastly, telenovelas teach language learners a variety slangs to hold fluent conversations with people of all generations!
