This lesson plan is one of many I will be uploading to accompany the high school level common core ELA Module lessons that can be found on the Engage New York website: www.engageny.org
I taught the modules last year for the first time and was wishing I had the standards, text based questions, quick write questions, and homework assignments together in one place for each lesson (especially for student absences), so I created them.
In this first lesson of the unit, students will begin an exploration of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart.” They will listen to a masterful reading of the text and begin to analyze the first paragraph of this classic text, in which Poe introduces the narrator.
Students will analyze and discuss anchor standard CCRA.R.6 and, in the lesson assessment, begin to consider the narrator’s purpose in the first paragraph.
I have left the numbering on these modifiable lessons for those who teach in New York, but you can easily delete them from the top of each lesson. 9.2.1 simply means this is unit one of the second ninth grade module.
Included in this download:
-"The Tell Tale Heart" text
-detailed teacher materials from Engage NY
-detailed student lesson materials
-accompanying tools, checklists, and rubric
-quick write template
be on the lookout for the rest of the lessons in this unit and a bundled option when I have them all created.
