This Omega English product contains a 25 page Symbolism package to accompany the short story “The Tell Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe. It contains: a 4 page handout/printable on the literary device symbolism, a 2 page handout containing sentence starters that prompt analysis, an anticipation guide, and a writing response in which students analyze the author’s use of symbolism. In addition, the package also contains a variety of 10 symbolism worksheets that require students to identify symbols in the text, explain the symbols, analyze the symbols in the text, use textual evidence to support their responses, make connections to their prior knowledge including text-to-text and text to world, identify the connotation and denotation of symbols. The package also provides an opportunity for students to exhibit their knowledge of the content in a way that is conducive to their learning style. An engaging Symbolism and Me activity is included, which requires students to self-reflect on their lives and character traits and then create a symbol that represents them. Two planning pages and teacher directions are included for the Symbolism and Me activity.
