This 4 page worksheet on E. A. Poe's short story has 4 parts. Part 1 is "Words in Context," and 40 vocab words are quoted verbatim as Poe uses them in his story. I usually read this part aloud with the students. In Part 2A the students have to match the first twenty words (in a word bank) to their definitions and label the part of speech. Part 2B is the same with the second 20 words. I let my students use dictionary.com and work quietly with 1 partner for this. Part 3 is "Word Families;" students find relationships between words and how they are used. Part 4 is "Practice and Usage," and can be given as a quiz or a review. Students have to decide if a vocab word is used correctly, making a sentence "Probable? ... or Improbable?" A four page answer KEY is included, making this 8 pages in all.
