To test students' understand of Tim O'Brien's novel The Things They Carried, students must discuss five of the seven quotations provided on this exam (editable Word document, change to seven of seven (etc.) if necessary). Students must identify who said the quotation, in what context (brief summary of what happened shortly before and after this quotation), and the significance of the quotation. This identifies whether or not the students READ the NOVEL, but also their understanding of important themes discussed in class.
