In this activity, students are introduced to a new (free!) technology website that is used for making infographics. On this website, students create their own Vietnam War backpack, where they have to describe the tangible and intangible things they would carry with them to war.
This specific activity was created to go along with Tim O'Brien's The Things they Carried; however, it can be adopted for any war novel or segment. If teaching with this specific text, the best time to complete this activity is shortly after reading the first chapter in the novel.
Along with descriptions, students upload photos to make their graphic visually appealing and fun to present and share with others.
I love introducing students to this free resource because it is something they can use in other classes, as well as in their careers, specifically if they are looking to go into marketing, business, design, etc.
