If your students are anything like mine-- their cell phones have become an integral part of their day-to-day lives. During our Transcendentalism unit, in the spirit of men such as Whitman, Thoreau, and Emerson... I ask the students to give up their cell phones and write about it.
I had students actually crying on the day they dropped off their phones with me. Once the experiment was over, the discussion was both hilarious and enlightening. I seriously encourage you to try this project!
