The Three Scrooges is a six scene play developed as a modern take on Charles Dickens’s, "A Christmas Carol". This time the setting is a school and the main characters are a grouchy principal, Miss Kreeny known as “Meany Miss Kreeny”, an uppity librarian, Ms. Shushinbocker, and a sarcastic custodian, Mr. Larry, known as “Scary Mr. Larry”. Within the first scene, one will sense how cruel these three are after giving their students detention on Christmas Eve and expecting the sentence to be served out on Christmas Day. But on Christmas Eve, the ghost of former principal Mrs. Grumple appears to warn the three of the Spirits set to visit them. The three scrooges are then swept into the night by two groovin’ Spirits back to the rockin’ 1970s, eaten out of house-and-home by two hungry Spirits of the Present, and an impatient Spirit of Christmas Future who wears a bunny suit. In the middle of all of this are poor Assistant Principal, Olivia Anderson and her daughter Little Lily, along with the goofy Bus Driver Babs, who horrifyingly becomes principal of the school in the Future. Filled with wit and humor throughout, “The Three Scrooges” will be enjoyed by all performers and audiences, reminding us that all hearts can change with the Spirit of Christmas, even these three!
