The Timeline of Roman Numerals covers 21 centuries before Christ and 21 centuries after. It serves to introduce the child to Roman Numerals and their use, as well as to emphasise time orientation.
Specifically for Montessori, it prepares the child for the vertical and horizontal study of the Fundamental Needs of Humans.
Print the timeline on cardboard, the blue arrows on blue paper and the red arrows on red paper.
Cut the timeline, leaving some space on one end to glue together. The blue (negative, BCE) will go from the dark centre line left, the red (positive, CE) from the black centre line to the right. Glue the ends to toilet rolls or something similar and roll up from both ends, so that the centre is displayed.
Cut out the arrows, fold and glue or laminate so that the Arabic and Roman Numerals are back to back.
Match arrows to timeline from centre outwards, alternating BCE and CE.
