This is a small group reader's theater is for 4 students. It is based on Aesop's tale. Aesop's tales are a great way to teach students how to look for lessons or morals! The moral of the fable is 'Better poor and plain food with security than plenty in the midst of fear and uncertainty!' In the script, One day the town mouse comes for a visit and the country mouse tries to make it feel at home. The town mouse isn’t very happy with the food or how quiet it is in the country and tells the country mouse about how different things are in the town. The country mouse is tempted to go and try the amazing food and see the luxuries that it has been told about. It agrees to go. When they arrive the two mice eat in the dining room and the food is all that the town mouse promised. A cat tries to get in and the mice hide. When it is safe to come out the country mouse says goodbye and hurries home. It has learned its lesson. There is a writing assignment for the students to do at the bottom of the last page. I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. Most of my scripts are in black and white so they photo copy easily. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice in and less off task behaviors take place. My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone and I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did. If you like this script look for other Aesop tales. Let me know how things go!
