This is the William B. Travis Victory or Death sent from the Alamo asking for reinforcements. Students in 4th or 7th grade Texas History classes who are learning about the Texas Revolution and specifically the Battle of the Alamo may enjoy trying to 'decode' the Travis letter. A scrambled word bank has been provided. My students get the choice of working individually or in partners. I encourage them to use context clues within the letter and scratch out words they've already used. I have included a key so students can easily access their own work when done. This works well as a sponge activity, a homework assignment or an extension activity for GT, Pre-AP or any classroom.
