This Treaty of Waitangi Escape Room is perfect to commemorate this special day in New Zealand History.
Students will read and learn about New Zealand's past and begin to understand how New Zealand came to be as a country and why issues still remain between Maori and Pakeha.
After reading each of the 5 passages of text, students are required to use their reading comprehension and higher order thinking skills to solve 5 puzzles based around each activity, and then complete a final puzzle to escape the room.
The 5 Clues involve the following readings
This NZ Escape Room can be completed either individually, with buddies, or small groups. Depends on the class. I quite like to do the Escape Room by cross grouping the students so that everyone is successful.
This resource is designed around the Treaty of Waitangi, but could be used all year round as the information contained is important and relevant to all New Zealanders. It would also be valuable for Maori Language Week and other Kiwi holidays.
