This package includes pre-viewing activities and post-watching questions from Alternative Classroom for the movie, The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey.
I have used this activity, or some version of it, in both English Language Arts, as well as Career Studies. It doesn't just focus on the content of the movie; it looks at "reality" TV, as well as ethical and moral ideas via character traits/virtues.
First, it examines what TV shows students find popular and entertaining, as well as what "reality" means in the context of television. I have used "Duck Dynasty" as an example of a "reality" show that may or may not depict real-life events.
Secondly, it views the movie through a lens of character traits, virtues, and moral/ethical issues. The questions are simple enough for most students to be able to answer completely, but broad enough to generate some heated debate.
