Students fill in and keep track of some major themes from "The Truman Show" as a film work package, and as a great resource for essay writing.
* The American Dream
* Reality vs. Illusion
* The Power of the Media
* Utopia vs. Dystopia
5 pages with space provided for students to write down what each theme means, what it is about, and then three specific details about how each themes shows up in the film.
Additional space provided for their explanations how each example links back to the theme.
I created this specifically to help my grade 9 groups improve on their argument and essay writing; to ensure their selection of evidence was always linked back to their thesis or body paragraphs. This really helped them keep it straight, and was more complicated than most simple movie question worksheets.
They also loved the bit of direction that helped them notice these themes in the film.
