Product Description
In this Common Core aligned lesson, students view a 16 minute Ted Talk, read a Huffington Post article, and discuss Shakespeare! My kids love this lesson because they enjoy discussing their ideas about love.

I start class by giving students time to silently and independently complete the first page. This page is a warm-up to the lesson and gets kids thinking. Then I ask for students to volunteer their definitions, metaphors, and responses to the prompt. Usually kids have a lot of fun sharing their ridiculous metaphors!

Next, we watch the video together as a class. After the video, students work in teams of two to read the Huffington Post article. Once pairs of students have finished reading and discussing together, I launch a full class discussion. Kids have a lot to say on this topic!

This usually takes 1 ½ days to complete when attempting in a 45 minute period. Kids usually finish the questions as homework and then I begin the discussion on the second day.
