Author Biography Worksheet

1 Characterization Chart
Using the terms from the previous page, the students will assign the terms to each character from the novel. They will then write a brief defense on why they chose the terms for each specific character.
The assignment is very versatile. I have used it as a group project and as an individual project. I have also used it as a more heavily weighted assessment. usually assign it at the beginning of the novel and have the students complete it as they read the novel. I usually give my students a week to complete the material, but you can use more or less time as needed. It is very easy to tailor this assignment to meet your classroom needs!

The second page tasks the students with finding examples of each type of irony in the story, Students must cite specific examples from the text to support their answers. Finally, the students answer four specific, unique questions about irony in The Turn of the Screw,
In total, this assignment took my students roughly three forty-five minute class periods, but you could take less time if needed. I used two class periods for the students to complete the activity and one class period for the students to discuss their work as a class.
This assignment is very versatile. It can be used as an individual assignment or a group assignment. I have also used it as an assessment grade that is more heavily weighted.
I did not include an answer key because they students' answers will vary widely. A class discussion is the best way to verify and discuss the correct answers for the assignment.
