This brief, but engaging PowerPoint provides students an overview of the media within the context of American government and elections. Topics covered include: the history of media in America; the different types of media; recent trends in media (role of the Internet, decline of newspapers, etc.); and the functions of media in America. Heavy emphasis is placed on introducing new vocabulary, with key terms underlined. The final slide can serve as an exit ticket with students matching key terms from the lecture/PowerPoint with their definitions.
