This is the product of efforts to revamp my 8th grade U.S. History class. The READ HighCLASS method is a new format based on students reading content, highlighting important information, clustering main ideas, answering key questions, summarizing material, and synthesizing what they have learned. This, our first installment, is focused on the time period from the end of the Revolutionary War through the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. All of the key information is covered, including the Articles of Confederation, Shays' Rebellion, the Constitutional Convention, Federalists and Anti-Federalists, the New Jersey Plan, the Virginia Plan, the Connecticut Compromise, the Federalists Papers, the Bill of Rights, the roles of the major figures at the Convention, the 3/5 Compromise, and ratification. The download also includes a study guide and a section test covering the major components and principles of the U.S. Constitution. The content should cover all of the key standards for the era for most states and the activities should take two weeks of class time for students to complete. There is a heavy emphasis on reading and writing throughout the activities.
