Product Description
This is entry 12 in a series of fun, yet engaging activities that allow students to rank the Top 10 Most Important Events during each U.S. President's tenure!

This is an excellent cooperative learning activity; as students can be placed into groups, with the task of coming up with the Top 10 list (facilitating debate, problem solving, and rigorous discussion of historical topics). The goal of course, is to create the list with reasoning, and in order of importance!

After evaluating important historical events during each president's tenure, create a list of the ten most important events (from 1-10, most important to least important), that took place from during their term(s) in office. After creating your list, explain your reasoning for including the particular event in the box labeled “reason for ranking.” Always think: cause and effect, who, what, when, where, why; overall historical impact on the country during and after the event.

There is a "just missed" mini-list for possible events that almost made the cut.

Teachers can use this activity to foster debate, cause and effect events, as well as historical significance and perspective.

As a bonus, students will get to assign a letter grade to the president (A-F). Students must then defend their position with reasoning, and a written explanation.

Teachers can use this list to make a consensus or aggregate ranking of the Top 10 Events of the time period. This is a terrific "chunking" activity that can take up to two class periods (usually one); or make an excellent supplemental homework activity.

Students can use their text, notes, the internet, or other sources to complete this activity. It is versatile and succinct.
