Orff: Perform in an ensemble using pitched and non-pitched instruments.
♩ Cover Slide Inform students that they will have the opportunity to engage in an interactive lesson using the SmartBoard, Pitched Instruments (Orff) and Non-Pitched Instruments.
♩ Slide 2 Tap on the slide to hear the melody of the piece used in this lesson. Tap each slide to advance to the next slide. Repeat the song until students are comfortable.
♩ Slide 3 Depending on how much your kiddos already know, you may simply move immediately into clapping the rhythm and dragging the cards to the bottom section where they should disappear. Another option is to clap each card and have the students echo you. Make modifications as necessary to ensure all students are successful.
♩ Slide 4 Before beginning this slide, review/model the hand signs shown on slide 4. Sing and use hand signs while working with this slide, making sure students are singing on pitch, while sitting/standing tall and straight.
♩ Slide 5 This slide introduces F Pentatonic. Remind students that ‘Penta’ means 5 and ‘tonic’ means tone; and that’s why it’s called Pentatonic. There are 5 tones in a pentatonic scale. DRMSL and Do (this piece is actually Do extended Pentatonic). Have the student tap on the ‘do’ to hear the tonic or the ‘do’.
♩ Slide 6 Have a student read the header of slide 6. Encourage students to come forward and use the pull-tabs, going in numerical order, and read. Students may then tap the instruments to hear what the glockenspiels sounds like.

♩ Slide 7 Have a student read the header of slide 7. Encourage students to come forward and use the pull-tabs, going in numerical order, and read the tab. Students may then tap the instruments to hear what all of the xylophones sounds like.

♩ Slide 8 Have a student read the header of slide 8. Encourage students to come forward and use the pull-tabs, going in numerical order, and read the tab. Students may then tap instruments to hear what all of the metallophones sound like.

♩ Slide 9 Have a student read the header of slide 9. Encourage students to come forward and use the pull-tabs, going in numerical order, and read the tab. Students may then tap instruments to hear what all of the un-pitched percussion instruments sound like.

♩ Slide 10 Have a student(s) come forward and drag the name of the Alto/Soprano Glockenspiel to the correct instrument. If the answer is correct, the instrument name should fade behind the instrument. Incorrect answers will bounce back.

♩ Slide 11 Have a student(s) come forward and drag the name of the Bass/Alto/Soprano Xylophone to the correct instrument. If the answer is correct, the instrument name should fade behind the instrument. Incorrect answers will bounce back.

♩ Slide 12 Have a student(s) come forward and drag the name of the Bass/Alto/Soprano Metallophone to the correct instrument. If the answer is correct, the instrument name should fade behind the instrument. Incorrect answers will bounce back.
