This is a small group reader's theater is for 3 students. This is the tale of the Ugly Duckling. In the script, A bird is born to a duck. It is not a duck but they don’t know that. Everyone just thinks that it is ugly. All the duck wants is to play with others and have friends. No one will play with him. They all tell him to go away. Some even tease him and tell him that he is ugly. So the ugly duck leaves the farm and goes looking for someone who will play with him. When he can’t find anyone, he lives all alone in a shack. When winter is over and spring comes, the ugly duckling sees his reflection in the pond and how beautiful he is. Another bird asks him to play and they fly away friends forever.
There are is a writing prompt for the students to do at the bottom of the last page. This script and some others are on a 2nd grade reading level. These were written for my students who were not on the grade level. I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. Most of my scripts are in black and white so they photo copy easily and do not waste ink. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice and you get less off task behaviors.
My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone and I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did.
