I use the book, “The Ugly Pumpkin”, by Dave Horowitz
during the fall when we are doing science and math with pumpkins and gourds.
These pages ask the students to answer comprehension questions about the story and then cite the text, illustration, or both as their evidence for their answer.
I read the book aloud while projecting it on my ELMO (document camera). It is always a huge hit with my students and they get the overall message in the book!
There is also a list of projects that can be done as an extension of the book!
