Recently updated to include a team invoice sheet to purchase materials, reformatted slides, and pictures of completed projects as examples.
The Writing Cupcake presents a project that will allow your students to work together, use their knowledge of adding and multiplying decimals, and help them better understand basic economic concepts like demand and budgets to create models of playgrounds using various every day materials. The real world problem will stretch your students' thinking and creativity. Students start with the first page explaining the problem a toy company is having with sales. The teams are then given the challenge to create new playground styles with a specific cost in mind. After brainstorming and drawing out their ideas, teams must use checks to pay for the materials needed to build their model. A budget sheet is also included to make sure each team does not go over the set total cost. Can take up to a week if you allow for about an hour of work each day.
