Teach your students all about our solar system using the fun hands-on activities contained in this packet! Packet includes:
-Student worksheet: planets mnemonic, picture of sun and 8 planets to color/discuss
-two charts listing solar system facts including planet type, number of moons, rings, temperature, rotation, revolution and one fact about each planet
-photos of all planets
-Planet Fact pages that can be used to create class booklets
-Planet Fact Fan with the following info on each planet: gas or terrestrial, rings – yes or no, number of moons, day length, year length, temperature in Fahrenheit, 3 facts per planet for students to fill in (students can use the planet books to do this as a group/partner activity) Answer key included.
-Photos and worksheet reviewing the 5 dwarf planets: Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris
-24 card solar system memory game with planet facts
-“My Planet” activity with directions, photos and student example- materials needed: paper towels or coffee filters and markers
- Craters activity- materials needed: flour or sand, rocks. Photos, student worksheets with answer keys, student chart, bar graph and data analysis worksheet
-Find your weight on other worlds student worksheet
-Cool Solar System facts slides: 8 slides, the first slide has a question with 3 answer choices, the next slide states the correct answer with explanation
-Create an Alien project – challenge your students to create an alien that has adaptations allowing it to live on a certain planet- draw and then actually create the aliens using paper towel tubes, paper, anything you can find around your classroom or this can be sent home as a project. Fill out info booklet on alien including planet facts such as how far is the alien’s planet from Earth and how long would it take to get there if they flew there in a jet! (Answers included on a chart for students.) Encourage students to use their knowledge of planets with this fun wrap-up activity!
