Updated for 2018 - I created this summer journal for students to write down their thoughts, the fun things they do, and especially what they read. When my former students as well as my new students return to school in the fall, they will be able to take as many Accelerated Reader tests as the books they read during the summer by keeping track and writing just a bit about each book they read. Since they move on to a new campus, I also encourage them to email me and let me know how many books they read this summer.
The first thing my students do when I give them the journal is write down their log-in and passwords to the following programs:
There is a dedication page for students to look back on the school year. My students will move on to a new campus, so I want them to reflect on the last three years at the school.
Next, students write their reading goal for the summer. They have five prompts to help them with their goal.
Additionally, student will make a plan to keep up with their math skills by choosing a fun game format they can play.
Goal setting isn't complete without a Summer Manifesto.
My Summer Book List: Has a place for the title and something they want to remember about the book.
My Summer Journal pages are included for writing and doodling. Each page contains spots for the week.
Book Review: The page has 3 spots for your 3 favorite books of the summer.
Beach Themed color pages set each section a part.
Autograph pages are included. There are enough for every student in the class. You can either write the students' names or place their picture in the box provided. There is room to leave a message. Two final autograph pages are included for regular signatures. (At our school, our 5th grade classes go outside to sign either year books or autograph books, so these pages are included for this special memory making time).
A final "Summing Up the Summer" page is included for final thoughts and reflection on the summer.
