Students recreate the experience of 2 slaves escaping slavery on the Underground Railroad with the help of Harriet Tubman. They answer 5 questions, complete a map activity where they recreate their journey on the Underground Railroad (4 prompts provided), and answer a two part question (prompts provided) which touches on giving advice to other slaves contemplating escaping slavery. This would be great for a sub!
Sample questions and tasks include:
--Once you made it to the North, how did you start your life over? (with 3 follow up questions)
--After 8 months in the North, your friend is captured and sent back south via the Fugitive Slave Act. What is your reaction to that? (plus one more follow up question)
--Mark 2 places where you encountered slave catchers along the way and explain how you avoided capture. (plus a variety of other tasks)
*there is no answer key because all the tasks are opinion/creative*
