To become familiar with the major foreign and domestic affairs of the United States during the 1920s, 1930s, and early 1940s.
1 class period
Class members begin this activity reading through summaries of major events that occurred during the years when Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, and Franklin D. Roosevelt were the presidents of the United States. This information is then used to complete a crossword puzzle.
For crossword puzzles, I often give the kids the option of working individually or joining their desks with one other class member to work in pairs, which is very popular among my students.
Teacher Instructions and answer key included, along with a 20-question follow up quiz to measure student progress. The quiz can also be given as a homework assignment or used as a review exercise later in the school year.
