Chester W. Nimitz was born at Fredericksburg, TX on February 24, 1885. Nimitz originally wished to attend West Point but was unable to do so as no appointments were available. He was informed that one competitive appointment was available to Annapolis so he enlisted.

In the Navy he served a variety of positions eventually becoming the first Fleet Admiral. Nimitz, led the pacific theater in the most important battles of WW II.
