In this week-long collection of lesson activities, students practice the skills that Good Readers Do, such as Making Predictions, Visualizing, and Making Connections.
Using the PowerPoint as a backdrop, students will first examine the TITLE of the story, them the ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATION. An examination of MOOD and FORESHADOWING follow. Students complete close-text reading by way of completing WORKSHEETS. (For example, filling out an GRAPHIC ORGANIZER with SENSORY IMAGERY.) Finally, students close examine a variety of ILLUSTRATIONS as a way to discuss SETTING and MOOD. They present their findings in a low-stakes ORAL PRESENTATION to the class.
