Description

Butterfly Life Cycle and Book Companion: This pack consists of two parts, a butterfly life cycle pack and a book companion for The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Butterfly Life Cycle Pack:

1. Sequencing Activity: Pocket Chart Picture Sort

Students sequence the life cycle of a butterfly by sorting the cards in order.

2. Sequencing Activity: Cut & Paste

Students follow up with a cut and paste page showing the butterfly’s life cycle.

3. Information Cards

Students will learn about how tiny eggs on a leaf grow and change to become butterflies.

4. Student Booklets

Students will use the information they’ve learned to fill in their booklets. Simple to differentiate! Have students write, draw, both write AND draw, OR cut & paste the life cycle stages in the flip books.

Book Companion

1. Sequencing the Story

Students sequence the story’s events by sorting, cutting, and pasting the pictures.

2. Retelling the Story

Students illustrate and/or write about what happens in the story.

3. Text to Self Connections

Students make text-to-self connections by relating what happens in the story to their own lives.

4. Vocabulary Word Search

Students work with words from the text and extend their vocabulary.

5. ABC Order

Students sort words from the text in alphabetical order.

6. Story Elements

Students become familiar with aspects of the book.

7. Story Map

Students cut and paste an overview of the story.

8. Days of the Week

Students will learn the days of the week, sequencing them in order.

9. Word Sort

Students sort words from the story by how many letters are in each word, using the word/picture cards, and fill in a recording page.

10. Syllable Sort

Students will say and clap words from the story (using the word/picture cards), then will sort them by how many syllables they have.
