Description

Review 2D shapes: circle, oval, triangle, square, rectangle, rhombus, trapezoid, star, heart & crescent, plus 3D shapes: cone, sphere, cylinder & cube, with this super-fun caterpillar craftivity, to go along with Eric Carle's, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" story.

There are various options to choose from.

Older students can write the attributes of each shape on the back.

Besides the 2D and 3D shaped caterpillars, another option reinforces the days of the week along with the 2D shapes, which follows the story line of Eric Carle’s book.

“On Thursday the caterpillar ate a hexagon.”

On Saturday the caterpillar eats his last shape, then rests.

The final “body segment” says: “Metamorphosis took place and a beautiful butterfly emerged.”

There are 6 butterfly options to choose from, which can be glued to the end of the caterpillar, as well as 4 head options.

For that “Wow! factor” make the butterfly 3 dimensional, by folding the wings up, and gluing just the thorax of the top butterfly to the thorax of the bottom one.

Completed projects make a lovely, spring bulletin board or hallway display. Caption: "We're Shaping Up With The Very Hungry Caterpillar!"

I’m Diane from Teach With Me, hoping your little caterpillars are blossoming into super-smart butterflies. Wishing you an awesome spring.
