Description

Looking for a rigorous, but engaging, activity that assesses a variety of middle school ELA standards? The Video Game Project - An ELA Project for Big Kids is just what you need! It is simple to differentiate and virtually print-and-go! Additionally, this resource includes a digital workbook, making it the perfect project for virtual or hybrid classrooms.

In this activity, students will assume the role of a video game designer. They need to submit a video game design to the fictional Nin, Ten, and Do, Inc. in the hopes that it will be selected for production. Students will complete a Video Game Submission Application where they will need to consider the following: plot, conflict, setting, character, and mood. Additionally, they will have to demonstrate their ability to write both narrative and expository text.

So, not only is this activity a blast for students to do, but it is also a great way to assess their understanding of many upper elementary/middle school ELA concepts!

Included in this product:

  • Lesson Plans
  • Video Game Submission Application Packet in both DIGITAL and PRINTABLE form (In the application, students will be asked to consider: setting, conflict, major characters, minor characters, protagonist, antagonist, prologue, mood, sensory details, imagery. Additionally, they will need to complete both narrative and expository writing.)
  • A variety of “Extras” that will allow you extend this project and keep students engaged right until the very end of the year

I hope your students ❤️ this project as much as mine do!

TEACHERS LIKE YOU SAID…

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Shelly O. said, “This is well organized and easy for kids to follow. There's just the right amount of instructions so students have enough information to understand, but can also use their imagination and create original ideas.”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Elena F. said, “My students loved this assignment! I used it with my 9th grade, self-contained, special needs classroom and they had a blast! Having both a paper and digital copy of the application/report is wonderful for my kiddos with typing goals. The creativity this inspired in my kids was amazing. I am happy I purchased it and will be using it again next year!”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amanda M. said, “My students and I loved this PBL activity! I used it during intervention/enrichment period. Students could work at their own pace picking up where they left off. They were able to show their creativity while also applying the skills they have learned! Their end products were so amazing! Love this!”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Abigail C. said, “This resource was exactly what I needed for a fun, engaging, end of the year project with my students with severe behavioral disabilities. They loved every second of it! Thank you!”
