The Video Game Project - An ELA Project for Big Kids is one of my all-time favorite ELA projects! Not only is it engaging and rigorous, it is simple to differentiate and virtually print-and-go! Additionally, the resource was updated in April 2020 to include a digital workbook, making it the perfect project for virtual or hybrid classrooms.

In this activity, students will assume the role of a video game designer. They need to submit a video game design to the fictional Nin, Ten, and Do, Inc. in the hopes that it will be selected for production. Students will complete a Video Game Submission Application where they will need to consider the following: plot, conflict, setting, character, and mood. Additionally, they will have to demonstrate their ability to write both narrative and expository text.

So, not only is this activity a blast for students to do, but it is also a great way to assess their understanding of many upper elementary/middle school ELA concepts!

Included in this product:

• Lesson Plans

• Video Game Submission Application Packet in both DIGITAL and PRINTABLE form (In the application, students will be asked to consider: setting, conflict, major characters, minor characters, protagonist, antagonist, prologue, mood, sensory details, imagery. Additionally, they will need to complete both narrative and expository writing.)

• A variety of “Extras” that will allow you extend this project and keep students engaged right until the very end of the year

I hope your students ♥ this project as much as mine do!
