The domino effect and fear of communism are used to give justification for American advisers being sent to the region. The Gulf of Tonkin incident and Lyndon Johnson's escalation of the war is then covered. Operation Rolling Thunder, the Tet Offensive, Agent Orange, the election of Richard Nixon, and the Pentagon Papers are then discussed. The video concludes with the Vietnamization of the war, the Paris Peace Accords, the fall of South Vietnam, and a breakdown of the costs of the war. Following the video, students will proceed to the U.S. History.org website which will offer more of a look at the home front during the Vietnam War. The draft, the peace movement, the Kent State Massacre, the role of T.V. bringing the war into the American living room, and more are all covered in the reading.
