Product Description
The War I Finally Won is the Sequel to The War That Saved My Life. Ada finds out
that her mam was killed in the munitions factory she worked in. World War II
rages on. Susan, Jaimie, and Ada are living in a cottage on the property of Lord
and Lady Thornton due to Lady Thornton’s generosity. When the English
government takes over the Thornton’s home, Lady Thornton and Maggie move in
with Susan, Jaimie, and Ada. A German Jewish girl named Ruth also moves in,
courtesy of Lord Thornton, so Susan can teach her enough math to take the
exams for the University. Of all the characters at the beginning of story, Ada is in
the most pain and suffering. Although she no longer has a club foot, she cannot
come to terms with why her mam hated her when she was living. Ada was
“trapped” in the past. As the story continues, the readers find Ruth is living in just
as much pain as Ada. Ruth is now living in a country fighting Germans. She was
looked upon as a spy in the town. Her mother and father escaped Hitler’s
Germany, her grandmother was killed in a German camp, and she was mistrusted
by the people she lived with in the cottage. This story explains how war changes
people and their lives. It is a story of rejection and acceptance. The questions I
have prepared for students for every chapter in this story involve critical thinking.
Hopefully, students will change as they read this story and answer these thoughtprovoking
questions.
Included in this packet are Graphic Organizers that will help students comprehend
how characters in the story develop and change from the beginning of the book
until the end, and give evidence for those changes. These Graphic Organizers will
help students prepare the writing for the essay topics in this packet.
