I used these activities when I did my very first literature circles as an intern and it worked out really well! Not only did the students love the book, but the activities kept them engaged and held them accountable for keeping up with the reading when they met with me!
The pack includes five topics that are relevant to the book: Descriptive Language, Making Predictions, Point of View, Types of Conflict, and Summarizing.
When I used these activities, I gave each student a clear front presentation folder and they wrote their name on the cover page. Because we were doing state testing, the activities lasted me three weeks and each week, I added the week’s activities into their folders. I also intermixed the activities with student-led discussions and days that were solely dedicated to reading.
